In Enact we believe that psychometric tests should only be used as part of a multi method process. Tests do not have the bandwidth to act as a useful standalone data point. Unprofessional Test Use can exaggerate small differences in responses, put self-limiting labels on Test Takers and undermine future Test Taker agency.
Aptitude Tests and Self Report Questionnaires give specific (but limited) information about performance in a specific (but limited) range of psychological areas. They are best complemented by conversation with the Test Taker who (given time and space to reflect) knows their needs and capabilities better than any test. In such a conversation test data can be a useful input.
Best practice Test Users will primarily use tests as a platform for a respectful conversation with Test Takers, given that Test Takers “Responses” to tests can be influenced by many factors. Enabling “Test Takers” to make sense and address “learning styles, work habits and preferences” with agency is the core skill of the Test User, regardless of what commercial tests you purchase.
As an Educator in best practice Test Use, we promote responsible test use. We do not promote Tests in themselves. Our philosophy is that the test is only as good as the Test User. The critical factor is not what test you use, but how you use it.
